IL Soybean Association stressing need for new farm bill
The director of government relations with the Illinois Soybean Association says he’s disappointed the U.S. House will adjourn for the August recess without further movement on a new farm bill.
Andrew Larson tells Brownfield…
“There’s certainly a lot of concern that a farm bill may not pass before the end of this federal fiscal year, with only a couple legislative weeks between now and then.” He says, “It’s very hard to see that moving when the Senate has yet to even release text out of committee.”
He says farmers need a new farm bill now more than ever.
“With tighter farm financial situations, and folks certainly looking at lower commodity prices, and certainly looking at increased input costs,” he says, “we want to make sure we can provide as much certainty as we can.”
The current farm bill extension expires at the end of September.
