Illinois farmer elected to NCGA leadership position

A central Illinois farmer has been chosen to be one of the next leaders of the National Corn Growers Association.

Bill Leigh, who grows corn and soybeans in Marshall County, says being elected as the organization’s next first vice president puts him on track to serve as board president in 2027.

“Somebody needs to do these visits because they want to hear from farmers, the politicians or the agencies.”  He says, “It’s our stories that actually sway a lot of times their attitudes and their opinions.”

He tells Brownfield that he’s looking forward to working on several key issues facing corn growers.

“We want the farm bill passed, the completion of the farm bill, and it needs to be done.”  He says, “And we thought maybe E15 would be attached with that.”

Leigh, a sixth-generation farmer, says he’s honored to serve in the role.  His term officially begins in July upon ratification of the election by NCGA’s delegate body.
