Illinois farmer excited by demand prospects of new RVOs

A member of the governing board of Clean Fuels Alliance America says the biodiesel and renewable diesel industries are poised to take advantage of new Renewable Volume Obligations (RVOs) issued by the EPA.

Rob Shaffer, who farms in central Illinois, tells Brownfield…

“They actually gave us 5.6 billion gallons, which is a big help, because the industry was producing already more than what the RVOs had given us under the Biden administration.”  He says, “They were holding back production because they didn’t have the volume numbers in ‘25. So now they can ramp up.”

He says those industries operating at full capacity should drive demand for several crops.

“It’ll be a huge boom for the American farmer as far as soybean oil goes, canola oil, corn oil, which is derived off of the ethanol process.”  He says, “A lot of different things can go into biodiesel and renewable diesel.”

Shaffer says he’d like to see the next set of RVO levels for 2028 and beyond incorporate even higher volumes of biodiesel and renewable diesel.
