Illinois farmers mostly done with harvesting

Illinois farmers are about finished with harvesting, and are focused on fall field work. USDA reporters say there were only a few hours last week that were not suitable for field work, as scattered rains dropped less than two-one hundreths of an inch of precipitation.

Soil conditions remain dry, with topsoil moisture rated as 11% very short, 38% short, 50% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture levels remain very dry with 24% of the state very short on moisture, 40% short, 36% adequate, and no reports of excess subsoil moisture.

Ninety percent of the Illinois winter wheat crop has emerged, with 18% of that crop in excellent condition and 64% in good condition.
