Illinois Grown label debuts
Consumers in Illinois will soon be able to quickly identify products grown in-state.
Raghela Scavuzzo, executive director of the Illinois Specialty Growers Association, says the new Illinois Grown label, which officially debuts today, builds off the successful Illinois Products program.
“They’re gonna launch what’s called Illinois Grown.” She says, “This is specific for products grown in the state of Illinois. Illinois Products previously was just if it was distributed or processed in the state. This is going to allow it to highlight what’s actually been grown from our Illinois farmers.”
Kayla Graven, domestic marketing manager with the Illinois Department of Agriculture, says enrolled farmers benefit from statewide marketing and consumer outreach.
“Producers would have the opportunity to have a sign for stores, and then also for stickers that would go in front of their products at stores.” She says, “Then also we have the opportunity for retailers to sign up as well.”
Applications for the Illinois Grown program are now open.
