Illinois Pork Day at the capitol
Today is a special day at the Illinois state capitol for the state’s pork producers.
“Representative Mike Marron is going to stand up and designate today, May 22nd, as Illinois Pork Day at the capitol.”
Jenny Jackson with Illinois Pork Producers Association says this is their fourth year serving BLT’s to legislators and this year they are also passing out free sandwiches outside of the capitol.
“This is an opportunity for those farmers to get inside the capitol, talk to their legislators about how important it is to have pork production strong and viable in Illinois and at the same time on the street we are going to be able to talk to consumers about how nutritious pork is and how to cook it properly.”
The pork industry contributes more than $1.8 billion and over 10,000 jobs to the Illinois economy.
