Illinois winter wheat rated 80% good to excellent

The USDA says winter wheat emergence is ahead of the five-year average pace in Illinois.

The latest crop progress report says as of Sunday, 93% of the state’s crop has emerged, an increase from the average pace of 89%. Eighty percent of the state’s winter wheat crop is rated good to excellent, a 5% improvement week-to-week.

Topsoil moisture across the state was rated 82% adequate to surplus.
