Importance of a balanced gut microbiome

A senior scientific and business advisor at Novonesis says maintaining a balanced gut microbiome is essential to an animal’s well-being.

Dr. Steve Learner says it all starts with a probiotic.

“The reason you provide probiotics to the animals in your care, not only do you see efficiency and good rates of gain, but also you’re supporting their well being through this gut brain microbiome access,” he says. “When they feel better, they do better.”

He tells Brownfield producers can benefit from their livestock’s healthy gut. 

“Producers spend most of their money on feed,” he says. “The more of the nutrients that are trapped out of that feed in the bodies of their animals to produce meat, milk, and eggs, the better it is for them and give the a greater the likelihood of success. Probiotics foster that success.”
