Improvements continue at Illinois State Fairgrounds
The acting assistant director at the Illinois Department of Agriculture says the thousands of visitors expected at the upcoming Illinois State Fair will notice some updates to the fairgrounds in Springfield.
Kristi Jones says last year’s announced demolition of Building 29 is complete.
“Many people know that as the prior 4-H dorms, the building was in very poor shape.” She says, “It has been completely removed. The area is leveled out.”
She tells Brownfield that no plans have been announced for the space on the west side of the grounds.
“These fairgrounds are used 365 days a year, and we want to make sure that whatever goes there is the greatest benefit to the taxpayers to utilize the fairgrounds,” she says.
Jones says several other capitol development projects have also been completed since the last time fairgoers strolled the grounds.
“Building 30 Junior Live Stock also has had major upgrades, including roofing, and that’s one of the multiple roofs that has been replaced,” she says.
The 2026 Illinois State Fair runs Thursday, August 13th, through August 23rd.
