Incoming NCBA president weighs in on farm bill, uncertainty in the ag economy
The incoming president of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association says he’s eager to see the farm bill cross the finish line.
Buck Wehrbein tells Brownfield he likes what the U.S. House proposed earlier this year.
“For cattlemen, it’s a good farm bill. The Vaccine bank and voluntary conservation programs and things like that are very important, and they’re in there, so we like the farm bill as it stands,” he says. “We’ll see what the Senate does with it.”
He says a lot of uncertainty will remain until after the election.
“It’s staying informed and trying to understand what may come and also maybe the different things you can do to deal with the different outcomes,” he says.
Wehrbein says NCBA is also continuing to work with Congress to exempt livestock haulers from federal electronic device logging (EDL) regulations.
Wehrbein participated in a federal issues forum, hosted by Sen. Pete Ricketts, at the Nebraska State Fair last week.
