Indiana Farm Bureau members remain concerned about property taxes
Combatting property tax increases remains a priority for Indiana Farm Bureau.
Scott county president Ethan McNeely says property taxes are projected to increase another 20% this year.
“That type of increase year over year will absolutely decimate small mid size family owned farms,” he says. “It also makes it very difficult on land owners so that becomes an incredible challenge to manage.”
He tells Brownfield the association wants to see limited increases, and that’s addressed in recent amendments to Senate Bill 1.
“That amendment was from an 8% cap rate to a 9% cap rate,” he says. “Farm bureau is really asking for an 8% cap rate to a 10% cap rate, and we’re also asking for our 6 and 7% cap rates to also increase by two.”
The Indiana State Legislature in an extended session, because 2025 is a budget year. It’s set to wrap up April 29th.
