Indiana Farm Bureau sets policy priorities supporting farmers and ag investment in 2026

Brownfield's Erin Anderson interviews INFB president Randy Kron during the 2025 Indiana Ag Gathering.

Indiana Farm Bureau’s president says members are focused on implementing policies that support the state’s ag industry in 2026.

Randy Kron says the organization is encouraging investments in agriculture.

“There’s a lot more opportunities off the farm than there is on the farm, so consolidation happens and that can be a real problem,” he says. “We’re looking for ways to make farmers more profitable, so they can pass the farm along.”

Katie Nelson, executive director of public policy, says energy affordability is critical to supporting Indiana farms and farmers.

“Those prices keep going up, and our farmers are concerned about those costs,” she says. “We will be looking at different policies that will support bringing those prices down and having conversations with our legislators to let them know that our farmers use energy too.”

Kron says other priorities include modern zoning and land use regulations, water policy, property tax relief, supporting local government, and implementing civil and criminal penalties for unidentified drones over agricultural land.

Members will meet with their state legislators in January to outline their concerns ahead of next year’s legislative session.
