A southwest Indiana farmer says the 2024 growing season was unique.

Don Villwock raises corn and soybeans near Edwardsport and says, “We had a great early April. We were feeling great. Then it started raining and then we didn’t get back into finish crops until early June. The early planted crops this fall (harvest) were great. They were some of the best we’ve had. And then we got into the later planted crops and I would say it was a C-rated crop at best.”

Speaking to Brownfield at the 2024 NAFB Convention in Kansas City, he said he didn’t experience any harvest delays. “We went through the month of October with no measurable rainfall until Halloween day. That’s the driest we’ve been. It was windy and extremely dry.”

Villwock says one of his goals for 2025 is to implement some new climate-smart ag practices to help improve sustainability.
