Indiana farmer nears the end of harvest 2025 with top-end corn yields

A west central Indiana farmer says he expects to wrap up the 2025 harvest season within the next two weeks.

Kevin Cox raises corn and soybeans in Parke County and says results have been surprising.

“Yields on beans were average,” he says. “Corn is going to be a top five crop for us this year. We’ve had some good fields that really yielded well. Overall, I’ve been very pleased.”

He tells Brownfield late-season fungicide applications helped his corn yields.

“We had some southern rust and tar spot come in late,” he says. “A lot of guys because of the cost, opted not to put that last application of fungicide on. This year, that was a good decision and that paid off for us to go ahead and make that extra investment to protect the crop for next year.”

The USDA’s weekly harvest progress reports have been delayed indefinitely by the partial shutdown of the federal government.
