Indiana FFA names Star in Agriscience

Another Indiana FFA state convention is in the books.  Wednesday night – Indiana FFA named their “Stars over Indiana”.

Jordon Cadle of the Paoli FFA was named Star in AgriScience.  His Supervised Ag Experience (SAE) looked at double crop systems.  “My earlier years I spent a lot of time with forage crops and selecting the proper plants to grow in emergency situations when there’s not much rainfall to germinate those crops,” he says.  “In the later years I worked with alternative fertilizers. I used sugars – like sugared lactose out of milk as an alternative source of energy to raise the grain yield.”

Cadle tells Brownfield he appreciates being able to research a project that will become useful on his own farm someday.  “I’ve been able to go out and find an alternative fertilizer that I don’t have to import on barges and trucks,” he says.  “I’m going to be able to go back to the family farm now, after I finish college and Purdue, and be a farmer that farms sustainably.”

Cadle will head to Purdue this fall and major in Ag Economics before returning to his family farm.
