Indiana Pork donates meals to local food banks through Fort Wayne TinCaps partnership

The director of communications for Indiana Pork says an ongoing partnership with a minor league baseball team is helping supply local food banks with protein.

Jeanette Merritt says the organization has donated more than 5,000 meals to the Fort Wayne community in the first two years of the joint effort.

“We anticipate that we’re going to be able to donate 2,000 more ground pork meals to community Harvest Food Bank,” she says. “When we’ve gone and made these donations, they always talk about how there’s a need for protein and it’s something that’s highly needed.”

She tells Brownfield producers are able to educate consumers about how pork is produced.

“It’s been a great opportunity for our farmers to interact with the different audience to not only talk about tenderloins and why we raise pigs, but that also lets us share some of our We Care principals,” she says. “It’s important for us to promote the product and to be able to give back to our community as part of that.”

Merritt says although this is the last year of the partnership, Indiana pork producers will remain involved in their local communities.
