Indiana wine industry on display during this year’s state fair

A southwest Indiana wine producer says the Featured Farmer program at the state fair is an opportunity to educate consumers about the state’s wine industry.

Dan Adams is the co-owner of Winzerwald Winery in Perry County.

“We’re here and we’re talking to people,” he says. “A lot of them are from urban areas and we get a chance to tell them about it. There’s also a chance that they will come to the winery, so we can give them a tour of the vineyards and talk about what it takes to get a grape from the ground to the bottle.”

He tells Brownfield his operation is highlighting its commitment to sustainability.

“We want to keep our land on our land, so we try to do things in a way that not only benefits what we’re doing but also conserves the environment for the wildlife and all the human beings that are going to come after us,” he says.

The Featured Farmer program is in its tenth year and sponsored by the Indiana State Fair Commission and Corteva Agriscience. 

The 2025 Indiana State Fair runs through August 17th.
