INFB focused on water rights and property taxes during this year’s delegate session
The president of Indiana Farm Bureau says property taxes and water availability are the biggest priorities for members.
During the association’s recent delegate session, Randy Kron says members wanted to ensure policy was put in place for agricultural use.
“How do we get protections or they want some assurances that if it’s a center pivot or if it’s a livestock farm, when they flip the switch or turn the valve on, they want water, and right now somebody, a bigger user could come in and pump it out from under their farm and there’s nothing they could do about it,” he says.
He tells Brownfield property taxes are also a concern.
“The base rates have risen 26% in 2024 and projected 20% in 2025 and actually the year before that I think was 16%. So they have gone up substantially,” he says.
Kron says the organization has put together a task force to work on both of those issues.
