Innerplant Cropvoice lets farmers “listen” to plants
Farmers may soon be able to stop fungal outbreaks in soybeans before they take hold.
Shelly Aronov, co-founder of Innerplant, says their Cropvoice system utilizes engineered soybeans to detect fungal disease earlier than ever before.
“We do this by tapping into the plant’s natural reaction to stress, and then we essentially add a line of code into them so that they can start producing a signal that we can optically detect,” she says.
Aronov says satellite imagery is used to read the plant’s signals. She tells Brownfield they’ll use the plants in sentinel plots as an early warning detection system.
“So we can create kind of a network,” she says.
Innerplant is teaming with Growmark, John Deere, and Syngenta to further develop the technology. Aronov says….
“Having all these companies being able to either support with technologies, or just support with the education and the implementation with the farmers, I think we’re gonna get the best results for the farmers,” she says.
Cropvoice rolls out commercially in 2025 in portions of Illinois & Iowa, with further release into Growmark territories planned in following years.
