Innovative farmer kicks off Ag Innovations Showcase
A Missouri row crop farmer has kicked off the 2017 Ag Innovations Showcase in St. Louis. Garrett Riekhof is a new generation farmer in Higginsville in northwest Missouri who has embraced innovation. Riekhof grows an equal rotation of corn and soybeans. He was the first speaker of the event Monday, telling Brownfield Ag News, “I think anytime a farmer like myself can get in front of the movers and shakers of the newest innovations in the forefront of agriculture and biotechnology, that is somewhere I need to be.”
And, he tells Brownfield, he needs to learn what the newest innovations are for his farm by being here, “By golly, if I’m not understood of those particular topics that the industry specialists are working on and working towards, then once they come up and are available for me to buy them and use on my own farm, I’m already behind if I don’t understand what’s coming ahead.”
Riekoff starts corn harvest this week and is excited to witness benefits from his intensive fertilizer management. As for soybeans, he’s been on both sides of soybean dicamba issue – having experienced damage and caused it to neighbors’ fields, calling it his number-one stressor this year.
