Interim hemp rules get push back

The USDA’s interim hemp production rules are getting some negative feedback.

The American Farm Bureau has submitted comments saying the USDA needs to improve testing rules, expand the testing timeline and give clarity to hemp transportation.

Farm Bureau delegates voted at their recent convention to increase the allowable THC level in hemp up to ONE-Percent. The law now limits THC content in hemp to POINT-three-Percent or below.

Also, Farm Bureau is asking the USDA to allow THC testing of the entire hemp plant, not just the flower.

The CEO of National Association of State Departments of Agriculture, NASDA, says states have complained that the rule lacks clarity and is not flexible in several key areas. Barb Glenn says 30 states say they will have to revise their own hemp laws in order to comply with the requirements in the rule.

The comment period for the interim final hemp rule was Wednesday.
