International Precision Dairy Conference in Rochester

Digital technology is reshaping agriculture, and dairy is no exception.

Dairy professionals from around the globe are in Rochester, Minnesota this week for the 2nd International Precision Dairy Farming Conference.

Organizers say technology is being adopted at a rapid pace on North American dairy farms.  They point to sensors for cattle health and reproductive management, as well as robotic milking, automated feeding, and smart barns.

Presenter Caroline van der Weerdt of The Netherlands says Digital Innovation Hubs are becoming popular in Europe as a one-stop-shop for establishing and supporting precision dairy farming applications.

“We see Hubs as wizards that can get together all those parties to have the innovation you’re working on.”

An example would be a university, some farmers, and a feed company experimenting with a new young stock rearing approach.
