Iowa Congressman wants USTR to hold trading partners more accountable

A member of Congress is asking the U.S. Trade Representative to hold trading partners accountable.

U.S. Representative Randy Feenstra is a Republican from Iowa.

“Whether it be USMCA, whether it be finishing out the Phase One and going to the Phase Two trade deal (with China). It just seems like we’ve abandoned these things.”

On Monday, USTR Katherine Tai requested technical consultations under the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement in response to Mexico’s proposed ban of genetically modified corn imports.

Feenstra tells Brownfield he’s frustrated the administration did not act sooner.

“We can send letters, we can do phone calls, and we hear the same thing every time. ‘We’ll look into it, we’re working on it.’ Well I’m tired, alright. We need results.”

Ambassador Tai says the U.S. has repeatedly conveyed concerns with Mexico over its biotechnology policies.
