Iowa Corn hosts Southern Iowa Ag Industry Tour

Industries connected to agriculture in southern Iowa were showcased by the Iowa Corn Growers Association this week.

Southwest Iowa farmer and Iowa Corn District 7 president Curt Behrens says Thursday’s tour featured five businesses that are thriving in a rural setting.

“I think the amount that goes on here and how it effects not just our little area, but theses businesses are doing business all around the world.”

One of those is Excel Engineering, a global engine testing company based in the small town of Diagonal.  Excel president Doug Sobotka tells Brownfield he wanted farmers in attendance to know ethanol will remain an essential fuel.

“And how big of an impact that will have on the state of Iowa, and actually the whole country.”

Another stop was the New Cooperative Feed Mill in Afton managed by Justin Jones.

“We basically just wanted to take them around and show them what our facilities are about and what we do here.  We cover everything here, agronomy, grain, we have a feed mill that produces feed for the hogs.”

The Iowa Corn Growers Southern Iowa Ag Industry Tour also included the POET biofuels plant in Corning and Revelton Distillery in Osceola.
