Iowa corn, soybeans improve in latest USDA Crop Progress report

The USDA says crop conditions improved in Iowa over the last week.

Monday’s Crop Progress report says 80% of Iowa corn is in good to excellent condition with soybeans rated at 79%. Both were up from the previous week.

State Ag Secretary Mike Naig tells Brownfield the improvement comes despite the current heat dome stretching across the region.

“Things look very good across the state,” he said. “That heat also came with some moisture for the most part, right where you want it to be.”

The USDA says 72% of the state’s corn crop is silking and just 8% is in the dough stage. Approximately 70% of soybeans are blooming and 34% are setting pods.

Pasture and range conditions across Iowa are rated 67% good to excellent.
