Iowa, corn, soybeans rank among nation’s best in USDA crop ratings

Iowa has some of the highest crop condition ratings in the country.

USDA’s latest weekly crop progress report rates 84 percent of corn in the state in good to excellent condition, compared to 67 percent nationally.

Northeast Iowa farmer Bob Hemesath tells Brownfield his corn is knee high.

“It was a little cool when we first started planting, but stands look good. The heat the last couple of weeks has really pushed things along.”

Iowa’s soybean crop is called 83 percent good to excellent, with planting 97 percent complete.
