Iowa crop conditions mixed, Naig says

Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig says there’s a lot of variability in the state’s corn and soybean crops.

“I think we’re going to see everything from folks that will tell you one of the worst yields they have ever seen to folks that will set records, and then everything in between.”

He tells Brownfield some farmers have dealt with challenging growing conditions. “We clearly have had too much water in some parts of the state, and then we’ve actually gotten dry in some parts of the state. But over a large swath of the state though its been a nearly perfect year.”

Naig says a lot of questions will be answered beginning next month. “Ultimately, we won’t know good or bad how things are playing out until you get out there in the combine.”

He spoke to Brownfield at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.
