Iowa farmer about 10 days out from planting corn
An eastern Iowa farmer says he expects to start planting corn soon.
Lance Lillibridge raises a corn-on-corn rotation in Benton County and says, “The 20th is the date I like to look at. We might get a chance to start a little earlier this year, but I think I have plenty to do around here so I don’t know if I will.”
He tells Brownfield he’s been busy with spring fieldwork. “We’re out putting fertilizer on. We didn’t apply anything last fall. The day we quit harvesting it started raining and it rained for a week or two. It never really dried out to have great conditions. It’s really nice out there right now.”
Lillibridge says some timely rains are needed after he gets his crop in the ground. “Out here doing some strip tilling, the strips are in good shape. But deep down it’s still dry.”
He says the only changes he’s made this year are some slight alterations to his fertility plan.
