Iowa farmer optimistic about crops despite weather challenges

A western Iowa farmer says he’s faced a number of challenges during the growing season.

Kevin Ross raises corn, soybeans, and hay near Minden. “This year it seems like we’ve dealt with every kind of issue you could imagine, other than the huge insect pressure which we haven’t had yet. But I would tell you we’ve had the floods, hail, tornadoes, and all of these different things.”

But he tells Brownfield all things considered crop conditions are better than expected in his area. “If you didn’t get hit with one of those events, they look really good. Certainly there’s a lot of unseen damage out there from wind, even from just a week ago.”

Ross says repairing some harvest equipment will be his main focus the rest of the month.
