Iowa farmer pleased with growing season conditions

A central Iowa farmer says he’s expecting an above average corn and soybean crop this year.

Tim Bardole raises soybeans, corn, and hogs near Rippey in Greene County. “We’re in a very good part of the state luckily. The corn got in probably as early as we ever have. Soybeans were a little later than we wanted, but still in great time.”

He tells Brownfield his farm wasn’t impacted by the massive rain event that hit parts of the Upper Midwest earlier this summer. “We missed the big rains and we’re a little dry now, but things look very good.”

Bardole says repairing harvest equipment is his primary focus this month. “Rebuilding our corn head because it is worn out. We’re doing work on the grain table and the combine to get it ready to go.”

Bardole says he also plans to start seeding some cover crops.
