Iowa farmer suggests grain marketing window is closing

A north Iowa farmer suggests the window to market old and new crop grain could close soon.
April Hemmes grows corn and soybeans near Hampton and says about 20 percent of her 2025 crop is already under contract.
“Corn and soybeans, and I sure wish I had more sold. And there’s a lot of corn out there. So I hate to hurry up and wait for better prices, especially this time of the year. And I will have everything off my farm by July 1st, in price.”
She tells Brownfield the market never seems to get better once July hits.
“Unless you have a major weather event, and now that we’ve got some rains and things are looking a little bit better I think that’s why the markets are down. Because when the Midwest (and) Iowa gets rain, that’s always a good thing.”
Hemmes says the drought year of 2012 was the last time she remembers corn and soybean prices improving as the summer went on.
