Iowa farmers call for crop input prices to reflect today’s ag economy
A pair of Iowa farmers want to see crop input prices better reflect the current ag economy.
Cordt Holub grows corn and soybeans south of Waterloo and says the high cost of seed, fertilizer, and chemicals is pinching his bottom line.
“How are we going to rein in some of these companies and get them back to reality (as to) where we’re at right now. And I think some of these companies are still living in that $7 corn ideology, and we need to get back to reality.”
Klemme farmer Brent Renner tells Brownfield consolidation among ag input suppliers has negatively affected prices.
“And if we could maybe enforce some laws that probably are already on the books in regards to monopolies and having not as many suppliers as we would like to have for some of those inputs, and controlling the markets.”
Renner and Holub say they are looking for ways to reduce input costs without sacrificing yield potential.
