Iowa farmers take advantage of dry week
Iowa farmers spent a mostly dry week harvesting oats, cutting and baling alfalfa, and preparing for fall harvest.
USDA’s latest weekly crop report says the oat harvest is 93 percent complete, one day ahead of last year and four days ahead of the five-year average.
The second cutting of alfalfa advanced to 97 percent, and the third cutting is 45 percent done.
Corn at the dough stage or beyond reached 69 percent, with 77 percent rated in good to excellent condition.
Soybeans are growing a little slower than normal with 74 percent setting pods, and 77 percent of the crop is called good to excellent.
