Iowa FFA members pursue leadership development
The 96th Iowa FFA Convention wraps up Tuesday in Ames.
Scott Johnson, executive director of the Iowa FFA Association, says the state’s annual leadership conference provides a unique opportunity for students.
“They apply what they’ve learned in some of our activities and then that in combination with the leadership development, we would like to think that’s a great combination of marketable skills and capability that really help prepare these students for the future workforce.”
He tells Brownfield FFA has helped connect the industry with students that didn’t grow up with an agricultural background.
“We can’t keep trying to get more from a shrinking rural population. We are very excited to see growth in some of our larger school districts and population centers because we need to be able to draw from a population of students that maybe is more disconnected from agriculture than what we’ve ever worked with before.”
Johnson says attendance at this year’s convention has been very high.
