Iowa RFA director says “super minority” of impacted landowners oppose Summit Carbon pipeline

The director of the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association says roughly three of every four landowners who would be impacted by the Summit Carbon Solutions pipeline approve of the project.

Monte Shaw tells Brownfield around 75 percent have shown their support by signing voluntary easements.

“So while there are some very loud voices out there in opposition to the project, and that’s their right (and) that’s fine, I think we just have to remember that it’s a super minority of the impacted landowners.”

He says the Iowa Utilities Board followed the law when it recently granted a permit for the pipeline.

“It looks good in Iowa, I feel pretty good about North Dakota. We have to see in the next 30 days what happens in South Dakota to make this all happen, but the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter. And I think it signals brighter days for agriculture.”

Shaw says the Summit Carbon pipeline could create monumental opportunities for farmers amid falling prices and growing stockpiles of grain.
