Iowa Soybean official affirms latest USDA yield estimates
A leader with the Iowa Soybean Association says he was not surprised USDA’s yield projections came in below pre-report expectations.
Aaron Putze tells Brownfield he was at a multi-state soybean meeting last week with representatives from the drought-stricken Dakotas to Indiana and Ohio where rains have been plentiful.
“And as we all went through our reports, not only tremendous variability from state to state, but also within states.”
He recently drove from Iowa to Washington D.C. and says crops generally looked good from the windshield.
“But, it really did look good (from) eastern Iowa into Illinois. As you moved across Indiana though into Ohio, you can tell (they’ve had) too much water.”
Putze says in Iowa there are dry pockets “living rain to rain” while other parts of the state are set up for a bumper crop.
Brownfield interviewed Putze at the Iowa State Fair Thursday.
