Iowa State Fair returns after 2020 cancellation

The Iowa State Fair returns following last year’s cancellation.

ISF marketing director Mindy Williamson says organizers are excited to welcome people back for their favorite food, favorite entertainment, the livestock shows, and more.

“For us it’s been two years since a fair. We’re dusting things off (and) relearning how we did them before, but we are so excited.”

She tells Brownfield cancelling the 2020 fair because of COVID was like closing a business for 12 months.

“Because 11 days of the year is when we make 90 percent of our income. But we also have a considerable number of our expenses (during those 11 days).”

Williamson says the fair suffered a $13 million loss last year.

“But we feel very confident that we have trimmed the budget where we can (so) it won’t affect the fairgoer experience.”

The Iowa State Fair runs through August 22nd.
