IRFA praises Iowa Supreme Court decision on carbon pipeline survey access
The Iowa Supreme Court recently ruled to uphold survey access for the Summit Carbon Solutions pipeline.
Monte Shaw, executive director of the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, says the decision supports progress of the carbon pipeline and infrastructure projects across the state.
“Iowa law very logically allows temporary access to property that might be impacted to do surveys so you can make sure the route makes since and it’s safe. Unfortunately, this was just another frivolous lawsuit designed to try to slow this all down.”
He tells Brownfield IRFA supports carbon pipeline projects. “The single most easy and cost effective way to lower the carbon of biofuels, ethanol specifically in this case, is CO2 capture and sequestration. It’s easy, it’s proven, it’s affordable, and it can be done safely.”
Shaw says there are differing views amongst some farmers and landowners. “This is not a fun issue. It’s not an easy issue. There’s a lot of emotions involved. But, the impact on our future is so massive. We’ve got to find a way.”
If completed, the pipeline could span five states across the Midwest.
