ISDA donates $2 million to local food banks
The director of the Indiana State Department of Agriculture says a $2 million grant to help the state’s food banks will address food insecurity.
Don Lamb says this is just the first step.
“Giving that money out or having that money pass through those food banks is almost like a call to action for the rest of us to say, now that this money is out there, we still have to distribute food,” he says.
He tells Brownfield food insecurity has been on the rise 2021.
“Somebody really is in need and that’s what this really does,” he says. “You’ve got a development part. It’s fun to concentrate on the development part and to see people come out of that situation where they don’t have to have that relief anymore. But without the relief, they can’t get to the development stage.”
Funding for the grant was provided by the Indiana General Assembly through The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TFAP).
Brownfield interviewed Director Lamb during the Indiana State Fair, which runs through August 18th.
