It’s "Wind Energy Week" in Indiana

On the heels of being recognized as thefastest growing state for wind energy installations in 2008 by the American Wind Energy Association , and the announcement that two more wind farms are breaking ground this week, Governor Mitch Daniels has proclaimed April 13-18,”Indiana Wind Energy Week.

“We welcome the news that Indiana is the fastest-growing state for wind power energy. We’ve made homegrown clean energy production a priority, and we are proud to become a leader in new wind energy installations,” saidDaniels.

The two newest wind energy projects, totaling 306 megawatts are located in Benton and White counties.

It’s possible, when combined with wind energy projects currently under construction and those already in existence, by the end of 2009,Indiana could have a total of 836 megawatts of commercially available wind energy installed, blowing the state past traditional wind producing states of South Dakota and Wyoming.
