It’s going to stay hot
A state climatologist says this week’s heat episode will continue through the end of July for many parts of the Midwest.
Michigan’s Jeff Andresen says an upper air ridge over the central U.S. is going to be uncomfortable for humans and livestock alike.
“Over the next several days and into early next week, that ridge is going to spread to the north and east and then we will be experiencing some of that that very, very hot air,” he says.
He says sporadic, heavy rains the last few weeks have added to dry field conditions and crop stress across parts of the Great Lakes region.
“More than an inch and a half at one location only to have less than a tenth of an inch just a couple miles down the road—and we’ve seen that for some time here,” he shares. “It’s led to increasing problems with dryness in many areas.”
The latest weather forecasts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration suggest warmer-than-normal conditions are likely to continue through August.
