January WASDE report signals need for proactive grain marketing in 2026
A senior market advisor with Total Farm Marketing says the latest supply and demand report from the USDA caught the market off guard.
Bryan Doherty says farmers need to use more proactive grain marketing plans.
“We added an extra half a bushel of corn yield and harvested acres not only from month to month, but bigger numbers from year to year,” he says. “They’ve now become of better value to end users, but there’s no rush to buy aggressively.”
He tells Brownfield he’s not optimistic prices will move higher anytime soon.
“There just isn’t much there right now to look at,” he says. “You look at the southern hemisphere and you look at the weather from a day to day perspective, I just don’t think there’s enough there for end users or speculators to rapidly purchase.”
Doherty says farmers should prioritize risk management throughout 2026.
