John Deere announces upcoming layoffs in Quad Cities
John Deere says it plans to layoff nearly 300 employees at its facilities in the Quad Cities effective January 3rd.
In a statement to Brownfield, the company said the latest layoffs are due to reduced demand for the products manufactured at the plants. John Deere says the workforce reduction is not related to production moves, but due to the weakening farm economy and a decrease in customer orders for their equipment.
John Deere says the layoffs will impact 200 employees at John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline, Illinois, 80 production workers at John Deere Davenport Works in Davenport, Iowa, and seven production employees at John Deere Seeding and Cylinder operations in Moline, Illinois.
John Deere says laid off employees are automatically placed in seniority order for openings they are qualified to perform at the factory.
