Just the weather Wisconsin needed

Some much-needed warmth for Wisconsin crops last week.  The weekly Crop Progress Report from the National Ag Statistics Service Wisconsin Field Office says temperatures were up to 5 degrees above normal and precipitation was minimal.

As of Sunday, 36 percent of the state’s corn crop is mature up 17 points from a week ago.  That is still 15 points behind the five-year average.  82 percent of the corn is dented up 10 points for the week and 9 points behind average.  31 percent of the corn silage is chopped, about half of what should be in the silo by now but the choppers are rolling and providing we don’t get a lot of rain that number should jump significantly by next week.

89 percent of the soybeans are turning color and 58 percent are dropping leaves, both slightly behind the five year average.

Topsoil moisture is now at 12 percent surplus, 80 percent adequate and 8 percent short.
