Kansas counties receive $10 million for broadband projects
Ten million dollars in grants have been awarded to expand rural broadband in 14 counties.
Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly says the funds are part of a 10-year, $85 million state initiative to bring high-speed internet access to rural areas. Funds this year are being coupled with $12.7 million in matching dollars.
Funds are administered by the Kansas Office of Broadband Development and funded through the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program.
State officials say more than $41.5 million in rural broadband projects have been funded since 2020.
Counties included in this year’s round of projects include Allen, Butler, Cloud, Coffey, Doniphan, Douglas, Grant, Leavenworth, Marion, Phillips, Riley, Stafford, Sumner and Wilson counties.
