Kansas Farm Bureau sets legislative priorities for 2025
The president of Kansas Farm Bureau says the organization is preparing for the 2025 state legislative session.
Joe Newland says water rights are always a priority for members.
“We have to be careful about not just quantity, but the quality as well, where we get state funding to help take care of some of these issues and how we continue to work on voluntary use and voluntary cutbacks,” he says.
Newland tells Brownfield members also want to better understand the appraisal process for non-resident property owners.
“We want to make sure we’re always conservation practice heavy in agriculture and so we want the land taken care of and not just growing up into trees and brush,” he says.
Topics of discussion included water, animal health and energy, among other issues.
Kansas Farm Bureau members held their annual meeting earlier this month in Manhattan and set water, animal health and energy among their top policy concerns for 2025.
The 2025 legislative session begins on January 13.
