Kansas farmer finishes corn planting
A northeast Kansas farmer says he’s wrapped up corn planting already thanks to favorable weather conditions.
Lance Reac tells Brownfield it’s been dry with above normal temperatures. “We really haven’t had much rain lately, which is makes planting nice and easy. And the soil temps were up to like 60 degrees here.”
The latest crop progress and condition report from USDA says 24 percent of the corn crop is in and 3 percent has emerged. Five percent of soybeans have been planted.
Rezac says the wind has been a problem all spring. “Spraying has been the issue. We’ve had so much wind, and I’m sure everybody’s had the same issue with wind this year trying to get all our burn down done with the wind we’ve had. It’s kind of been an issue.”
Winter wheat condition shas been rated 41 percent good-to-excellent with 3 percent of the crop headed.
