Kansas farmer says warm weather leads to quicker planting pace
A northeast Kansas farmer says planting is in full swing in his area.
Brett Neibling says above normal temperatures have been a major factor. “The weather has been so nice. I would say that we’re about 50 percent done. That’s how good the weather has been going.”
The latest crop progress and condition report from USDA says 17 percent of corn has been planted, and 7 percent of soybeans are in.
He tells Brownfield drought conditions persist despite some recent moisture. “We haven’t gotten any of the big gully washers like some of my neighbors have gotten. I would say within the last 10 days we’ve had close to 4 inches of rain, which has been great, but it’s amazing how quickly it dries out.”
Winter wheat conditions continue to decline with 24 percent rated good-to-excellent.
