Kentucky crop conditions holding steady
Most crop conditions have held about steady in Kentucky, despite the hot and dry weather in late June and early July. Many parts of the state received enough precipitation to alleviate some heat stress on crops and livestock.
The state’s corn crop is rated 64 percent good to excellent, a slight increase on the week. Seventy-seven percent of the crop is silking, 18 percent is in the dough stage and 1 percent has dented. Soybeans are rated 62 percent good to excellent with 57 percent blooming and 32 percent setting pods.
Tobacco is rated 72 percent good to excellent with 35 percent blooming and 11 percent topped.
Pastures conditions continue their decline with just 44 percent rated good to excellent, this is down significantly from the 5-year average of 61 percent.
Topsoil moisture is 66 percent adequate to surplus while subsoil is 63 percent adequate to surplus.
