Kentucky crops: corn harvest 22% complete, soybean harvest 3% complete

Decent weather has helped Kentucky farmers continue harvest ahead of the average pace.

Corn is 22 percent harvested, well ahead of the average.  Ninety-five percent is in the dough stage, 88 percent is in dent, and 67 percent is mature.  Soybeans are 3 percent harvested.  Fifty-nine percent of the soybean crop is coloring, 29 percent is dropping leaves, and 59 percent is rated good to excellent.

Tobacco is 63 percent cut and 50 percent of the crop is housed and rated good to excellent.

Pasture conditions have declined as drought instances have increased. Pastures need rain for regrowth, or farmers will have to supplement with hay feedings sooner than expected.

Topsoil moisture is rated 28 percent adequate to surplus, and subsoil moisture is 29 percent adequate to surplus.
